Competition_Information and orientation system
basic premises:
• weather resistant
• static resistance to wind
• easy handling and upkeep
• (the terrain’s slope)
The concept behind the solution for the information and orientation system is primarily based on the basic premises mentioned above.
We consider the static resistance to wind to be the important limit, which strongly influences and determines the information system’s appearance. (It is evident from both the standpoint of historical constructions and practical reasons that mechanically anchoring the elements cannot be considered). In co-operation with the structural engineer the necessary load ensuring an adequate stability for the large information surfaces was set using the maximum wind speed maps for the area. (ČSN 730035)
In any event the weight is greater than it is possible to solidly fix in one whole with the actual information component. This finding led to the proposal of dividing the parts in two and using different materials for them. The information part can be separated without having to manipulate the counterweight. At the same time the internal information board is detachable so that it is not necessary to change the information in situ.
A higher level was also proposed, to divide the counterweights’ material, which enables the elements to be combined in a pair back to back, which also makes handling easier. The counterweight is equipped with rectifying screws so that it is possible to compensate any inclines in the courtyards and other areas where the system will be used.
The individual elements are always designed as a variation for indoor use too, where it is not necessary to account for the wind. The subtlety of the pedestal corresponds to this as it only ensures the stand’s stability.
